WLKY, the CBS affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky has an opening for an experienced broadcast Maintenance Technician.

Sitting along the Ohio River, Louisville is a modern metropolitan area steeped in tradition, according to U. S. News & Report. Locally owned restaurants and coffee shops make Louisville a culinary destination, with restaurants serving bourbon, produce, meat and dairy products sporting the “Kentucky Proud” label identifying them as Kentucky-grown or Kentucky-made. The Maintenance Technician position is a great opportunity for an entry level candidate or veteran to foster career growth through a combinations of training, mentoring and hands-on experience.

You will work with the engineering team to maintain, repair and upgrade equipment covering all aspects of our operation from IT Systems to cameras and transmitters.

You will report to The Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Support station on air operations under the direction of the Assistant Director of Engineering and Director of Engineering
  • Work with engineering and staff to support important on-air systems and workflows including news, production and broadcast systems and equipment
  • Provide user support in windows workstation environment for custom and standard software applications
  • Assist users with installing and using new software features and apply updated services and implement OS upgrades
  • Conduct troubleshooting, installation, research, documentation and cabling tasks.
  • Transmitter RF experience with Satellite and Microwave transmission concepts and operation.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of electronics and component repair
  • Knowledge of computer, computer systems and basic IP networking
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting equipment
  • Skills with video production, microwave systems, and IT infrastructure
  • Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.; climb ladders, work on rooftops and in confined spaces
  • Work flexible hours and shifts, including holidays and weekends
  • Autocad/Visio proficiency for system design and layout preferred
  • Background in transmission and satellite communications is a preferred
  • Higher education in technology, SBE or related military experience will be considered

This is a remote position.  

You will be responsible for driving revenue growth by selling linear TV and OTT advertising solutions for our portfolio of national broadcast networks and digital property.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage existing national business with the expectation to grow revenue.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers at national agencies.
  • Conceptualize, create and deliver sales proposals.
  • Meet or exceed sales revenue targets on a quarterly basis.
  • Continuously identify and pursue new revenue opportunities within the national marketplace.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, market dynamics, agency information, and agency platforms for handling business.

Requirements:

Media Engineer Supervisor

We are looking for an experienced and technology focused Media Engineering Supervisor to join the Corporate Engineering team.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven ability to maintain systems, problem solve and will lead a team to support the engineering and operations for our DC content center.

You will focus a portion of your time to work with diverse and strategic thinking internal and external teams to create, and support cloud-native workflows used for strengthening our content centers with new editing, live production and field gathering workflows.

Responsibilities include but not limited to

  • Implement, install & maintain engineering systems and provide end-user support across all departments.
  • Supervise preventive maintenance and/or troubleshooting of broadcast equipment, including but not limited to, cameras, audio and video equipment, graphics systems, encoders/decoders, and computing equipment.
  • Play a role in assessing business needs, vetting vendors, and collaborating across Corporate IT, Technology, Digital, and Security teams to define a cutting-edge, adaptable data driven and scalable content center ecosystem.
  • Assist in organizing and communicating high-level architecture, infrastructure and workflow concepts and develop them into working systems.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and point of contact for all things as it relates to equipment and technology, as well as stay up-to-date on the new industry standards
  • Solve/troubleshoot problems in a crisis situation, i.e., perform disaster recovery procedures.
  • Maintaining and leveraging appropriate data collection and monitoring systems to ensure visibility and communication on the status of media operations.
  • Ability to create and comprehend signal flow documents as well as systems level troubleshooting.
  • Oversee planning of future equipment installations, requirements, and budgetary recommendations.
  • Articulation of clear technology requirements in both written and verbal forms.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in News Engineering workflows or equivalent technical experience.
  • Direct engineering experience with cameras, editing, production switchers, and control room automation
  • Associates degree or higher in IT, electronics or computer related field
  • A great team-oriented attitude and dedication to quality
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft, Mac and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge and competency in core hardware and computer system technologies, including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and LAN/WAN networking.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex operational problems and providing solutions
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting problems and responding quickly under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of video streaming protocols and SCTE signaling.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations
  • Avid ACSR certified a strong plus
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to lift computers and equipment generally less than 50 pounds

Salary: The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $175,000 per year, depending on factors such as skills, certifications, and relevant work experience.

  • Develop strong relationships with clients, potential partners, and community leaders.
  • Leverage digital and sports marketing channels appropriately.
  • Stay educated on sports trends and be able to rapidly communicate trends and business opportunities to colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrate research capabilities, knowledge of tools and resources, and ability to interpret results.
