PROGRAM PARTNERS OFFERING ‘DEGRASSI’ IN U.S.

Syndicator sets a fall 2007 debut for Degrassi: The Next Generation, a hit teen series that has also developed a considerable adult following while running on Canadian cable.

Program Partners has acquired the U.S broadcast syndication rights to Degrassi: The Next Generation and will make it available broadcasters as a strip beginning in fall 2007.

“Degrassi is lightning in a bottle,” said Josh Raphaelson of Program Partners in a statement. “We’re excited to bring it to syndication.”

“Degrassi has built a strong and loyal audience during its run on The N, said Sarah Tomassi Lindman, vice president, production and programming for the Canadian cable network. “This show works everywhere.”

Produced by Epitome Pictures of Toronto, The Next Generation is the latest version of the 25-year-old Degrassi teen relationship franchise.

Program Partners is marketing The Next Generation as an outgrowth of its worldwide distribution agreement with Thunderbird Films.

The N, a nighttime network for teens, is a programming arm of Viacom’s MTV Networks. It is currently available in 50 million households via cable, digital cable and satellite television.
