PBS OFFERS iTUNES DOWNLOADS FOR $1.99 EACH

PBS announced today that it is making some of its popular primetime and children’s programming available via iTunes.

Consumers can now download for $1.99 each episodes of Antiques Roadshow, Nova, Now, Scientific American Frontiers, Arthur, Cyberchase and Fetch!

“The remarkable success of PBS podcasts on iTunes over the past year

indicates that PBS members and viewers of all ages are enjoying the new, expanded access to the content they want, when and where they choose,” said PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger in a statement.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, said that the service now offers more than 220 hit TV shows from more than 40 networks. “We are thrilled to partner with PBS to bring such educational and entertaining programming to iTunes Store customers,” he said.

Additional content attached to the PBS episodes will encourage users to become members of their local PBS station.

The iTunes Store is selling over one million videos per week, Apple said.

The iTunes Store began selling TV shows with five shows from ABC/Disney in October 2005.

In addition to the TV downloads, the iTunes Store now features over 3.5 million songs, 65,000 podcasts, 20,000 audiobooks, more than 5,000 music videos and more than 75 feature films.
