The syndicated entertainment shows got a double-digit audience increase following yesterday afternoon’s breaking story.
Ratings for all the syndicated entertainment magazine shows rose sharply yesterday following news in the afternoon of the death of Anna Nicole Smith, according to Nielsen weighted metered market averages.
CBS Television Distribution’s Entertainment Tonight registered the greatest boost, up 40% from Wednesday, to a 4.9/10. and that was up 36% over its year-ago time period average. In New York, ET averaged a 7.0/12 at 7:30 p.m. on WCBS, which beat the season premiere of Survivor that followed it at 8-9 p.m. and got a 6.1/10 .
The second-largest increase was for the ET spinoff The Insider which was up 32% to a 2.5/6, up 19% over its February ’06 time period average.
CBS Television Distribution’s Inside Edition gained 26%, to a 3.4/9, up 13% over year ago.
NBCU’s Access Hollywood rose 22%, to a 3.3/7, even with last year’s time period.
And while Warner Bros.’ Extra! picked up 17%, to a 2.8/6, that was off 7% from last year.
