Gerry McGavick returns to the Hearst ABC affiliate in the newly created role of director of sales, while Mike Taffaro is promoted to general sales manager.
Gerry McGavick will return to Hearst-owned ABC affiliate WMUR Manchester, N.H. (Boston, DMA 10) as director of sales, a newly created position, with sales supervision responsibilities at the station.
Additionally, WMUR Local Sales Manager Michael Taffaro has been promoted to general sales manager, overseeing daily WMUR sales operations and reporting to McGavick.
McGavick also will work in coordination with WMUR parent Hearst Television and its 30 television stations on the group’s political-advertising sales activities.
The moves were announced by WMUR General Manager Jeff Bartlett. “Mike has done a great job for us in every role he has had here,” Bartlett said. “It is great that we could bring Gerry McGavick back in a new role. His 10 years of experience as general sales manager here will certainly be an asset. Mike and Gerry have worked together here with great success and we’re fortunate to have this outstanding team together again.”
Before returning to WMUR, where he served from 2001 to 2011 as general sales manager, McGavick was general manager for Derry, N.H.-based WBIN. He began his advertising career as a media planner at ad agency Jordan McGrath Case & Taylor, moving to the New York-based ad-sales representation firm Harrington Righter & Parsons and later becoming general sales manager of WLVI Boston before moving to WMUR.
Taffaro began his media career in print-display and billboard advertising, most recently at CBS Outdoor, before moving to television in 2000 as an account executive at WMUR.
McGavick will return to WMUR on Nov. 27. Taffaro begins his new role immediately.
