The new Broadcast Innovation Stories campaign will feature 10 video profiles focusing on people in the broadcasting industry working on innovative technologies that provide programming and information to viewers and listeners in unique ways.
The National Association of Broadcasters is launching Broadcast Innovation Stories, a new campaign to highlight cutting-edge technological advancements in the broadcast television and radio industries. NAB’s innovation initiative, Pilot, will spearhead the campaign, which runs through April 2018.
The campaign will feature 10 video profiles focusing on people in the broadcasting industry working on innovative technologies that provide programming and information to viewers and listeners in unique ways. The video profiles, along with other short stories of various broadcast innovations, can be found here. The first video in the Innovative Stories series, which looks at Tegna’s KING-TV Seattle production of the first virtual reality mini-documentary in local news, is available here.
“Broadcasters have seen tremendous advances in technology in recent years that have improved our mission to provide local news, weather, entertainment and emergency information to our communities,” said Pilot Executive Director John Clark. “This campaign highlights the men and women who are developing the tools and processes that are changing local radio and television in new and exciting ways.”
The campaign will release a new video and five new capsules online each week. Future videos will profile Hearst’s women-led startup accelerator; iHeartMedia’s voice-powered platforms; News Press & Gazette’s Next Gen TV initiative; Bonneville’s KSL-TV Salt Lake City “Radio You Can See” programming; the development of the NextRadio app; the use of drones in newsgathering by CBS’s WCBS New York; and the broadcast and digital footprint of Raycom’s national investigative unit.
