The new head of Capitol Broadcasting’s NBC-Fox duo in Raleigh, N.C., joins from KGTV San Diego. He succeeds the retiring Steven Hammel.
Capitol Broadcasting President Jimmy Goodmon today appointed Joel Davis vice president and general manager of its Raleigh, N.C. duopoly of WRAL (NBC) and WRAZ (Fox). The appointment is effective July 16. He succeeds Steven Hammel, who retired after leading the duopoly for 10 years.
Davis comes to WRAL-WRAZ from San Diego, where he was VP-GM of ABC affiliate KGTV. During his nine-year tenure, Davis rose through the ranks from news director to general manager while spearheading the rejuvenation of KGTV’s news products across all dayparts and platforms. Under his watch, the station has enjoyed year-over-year ratings and revenue share increases while chalking up some 59 Emmy Awards, including Newscast Excellence Emmys the past 8 years.
Davis began his broadcasting career as a reporter and news anchor at stations in Iowa and Ohio. He was news director at KBAK Bakersfield and KFSN Fresno in California before being named managing editor at WFTV Orlando, Fla.
Davis joined KGTV as news director in 2009 and was promoted to Station Manager and then VP-GM.
Davis is a graduate of Iowa State University.
