KREN will terminate agreement with KOLO on June 30
Pappas Telecasting’s KREN Reno, Nev. (CW), announced Tuesday that it will conclude its newsgathering arrangement with Gray Television’s KOLO (ABC). Leo Ramos, KREN general manager, stated that, as provided in the agreement between the stations, the joint news effort will end on June 30, 2007. “We want to express our appreciation to the KOLO news leadership for their journalistic partnership and support in launching The KREN Ten O’Clock News,” Ramos said.
He continued: “What viewers will see beginning July 1 will be an improved newscast. We are committed to building on our initial success in the February 2007 Nielsen ratings period, and we are determined to produce the best newscast that reflects the local news that is important to our community.”
Recently, KREN has received high visibility from its investment in new studios in Meadowood Mall. The contemporary, transparent design has made these new studios highly visible to mall traffic and has created a lot of local attention. Additionally, the studios are bordered by 14-foot tall glass windows that allow visitors to view daily TV operations. The station produces local news broadcasts in HD with all-digital equipment.
