WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Dr. Phil’ Tops Again In Talk Universe

It surges 12% from the prior week to a nearly two-month high 2.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and topped the chat pack for the 104th straight week.

The top talk shows were lively in the session ending Sept.2, with perennial frontrunner Dr. Phil leading the charge.

Phil surged 12% from the prior frame to a nearly two-month high 2.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and topped the chat pack for the 104th straight week.

Live with Kelly and Ryan did well to hold steady at a second-place 1.9 after being partially preempted by the ceremony honoring the late Sen. John McCain at the U.S. Capitol on Aug. 27.

Others in the top five moving up were Ellen DeGeneres, which perked up 7% to a 1.6, and Steve Harvey’s Steve, which jumped 10% to a 1.1 despite being completely in repeats.

Also scoring double-digit increases were the standouts of the new sophomore class in first run. Daily Mail TV climbed 13% to a 0.9 with five days of reruns, and Page Six TV shot up 17% to a five-week high 0.7. The two shows were tied in the key women 25-54 demo.

Face the Truth, the new season’s earliest nationally syndicated strip to debut in first run, took its year-ago time periods up significantly in such important markets as Los Angeles, where it was up 75%, and Chicago, where it jumped 67%. The newcomer’s best metered market was Richmond, Va., where it rose 53% to a 2.9 rating/8 share.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Back in the national ratings, among magazines, almost everything ran into preemptions for preseason football. Against that backdrop, Access was the only strip able to show growth, improving 10% to a 1.1.

At the very top of the overall ratings chart for the fifth week in a row, Judge Judy advanced 3% to a 12-week high 6.7 and was the most-watched show in syndication

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.2, +9% from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, -11%), tied with Maury (0.8, +14%)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.7, unchanged), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.7, +17%)
  • Jerry Springer (0.6, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
