Univision Expands Local News Apps In 7 Markets
Univision Communications on Tuesday launched a slate of new local news apps in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Available on the iOS App Store and on Google Play, the apps give Univision audiences in these cities access to latest breaking news, weather, traffic and more.
“The launch of these new apps is the direct result of our re-investment as a company into our local stations across the country, allowing us to elevate the ways in which our viewers can engage with us and stay connected to the news they need the most,” said Chris Peña, SVP of news for local media. “Keeping up with your local Univision newscast has never been easier. We are excited to kick off 2019 by providing our audience with the award-winning, hyper-local content that only Univision delivers in an ultra-accessible mobile format they can bring anywhere.”
The new mobile experience is optimized to provide Univision audiences in cities across the U.S. with breaking news notifications, weather forecasts and local programming straight to their mobile devices. Univision’s local affiliate websites around the country have also been revamped to mirror the user experience and aesthetic on the apps, creating what the company calls “a seamless digital experience for Univision’s audience on mobile.”
Key features of the app’s digital and mobile experience include:
- 24/7 access to local newscasts.
- Notifications for breaking news and inclement weather.
- Continually up-to-date five-day weather forecast.
- Integrated social media sharing capabilities via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and email.
The apps are currently available for the following stations: WXTV New York, KMEX Los Angeles, WGBO Chicago, KUVN Dallas, KXLN Houston, KDTV San Francisco and WLTV Miami.
Additional Univision stations will unveil local apps in the coming months.
