Ratings Boost For ‘Live With Kelly And Ryan’
Now you know what everyone ordered to stay home was actually doing — they were watching Live with Kelly and Ryan, which rocketed 18% week to week and easily topped the talk shows in the session ending March 29, drawing a daily crowd of 3.7 million viewers.
The wildly popular daytime staple went ballistic with a 2.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, up 24% from last year at this time and its strongest performance since the week of Jan. 15, 2018.
Usual top talker Dr. Phil was partially in repeats and eased 13% to a second-place 2.1 after running into preemptions throughout the week for news coverage of the coronaviris outbreak.
Further back, Ellen DeGeneres declined 6% to a 1.7.
Among the highly rated talk newcomers, Tamron Hall sparkled with a double-digit increase, growing 11% to a 1.0 despite being in reruns on all five days.
Other standouts in daytime included gaveler Hot Bench, which barreled ahead 5% to a new season high 2.3 and ranked as the No. 3 daytime show behind only Judge Judy and Live.
Of course, Judy had no trouble dominating the courts and all of daytime with a 6.5 rating even though the show was blown out by pandemic news multiple times in four of the top six markets.
Elsewhere, Extra held its season high 1.2 and grew 20% from last year, the most annual improvement of any magazine, tying TMZ for third place in the genre. Inside Edition led the category with an unchanged 3.2, just ahead of sister show Entertainment Tonight’s 3.0.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

- Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, -11%)
