‘Jeopardy,’ ‘Feud’ Share Game Show Honors
The race for game show supremacy ended in a dead heat in the session ending April 19 as the previous week’s winner, Family Feud, fell slightly, while Jeopardy moved up just enough to make it interesting.
Feud backed off 3% from its highest rating in more than two years scored in the previous week to a 7.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, while Jeopardy inched up 1%, tying at a 7.2.
Wheel of Fortune was no threat to the top two, fading 15% to a 5.8 amid heavy preemptions.
In daytime, Live with Kelly and Ryan’s winning streak among talk shows continued for a fourth week despite the show’s easing 4% to a 2.2.
Usual leader Dr. Phil was again hurt by pandemic preemptions and gave back 5% to a second-place 2.0 while Ellen DeGeneres added 6% to a third-place 1.9.
Newcomer Tamron Hall was hot, leaping 10% to a 1.1 to tie its series high and surging 25% in the coveted women 25-54 demo even though the show was mercilessly preempted in some of the largest markets.
Tamron, which has been attracting audience while featuring new content originating from her home, drew a substantial daily crowd of more 1.44 million viewers on average.
Queen of daytime, Judge Judy, was in reruns on all five days, but nevertheless rose 2% to a 6.4 to destroy everything else in the daypart. Judy also extended its domination of the court shows to 1,230 weeks in a row.
Elsewhere, Extra was the only magazine moving up, growing 10% to a 1.1 to tie TMZ, which declined 8%. In addition, Extra clocked the biggest year-to-year improvement of any magazine, jumping 10%.
Inside Edition led the category with a 3.0, although it was unchanged week to week.
