No Summer Doldrums For ‘Tamron Hall’

In the week ending June 28, the freshman talker jumps 14%, making it the only talk show moving up — despite being in repeats on three of the five days.

Highly regarded rookie talker Tamron Hall had the hot hand in the otherwise quiet summer session ending June 28. Hall became the syndicated strip with the biggest upside move of the week by shrugging off drastic large-market preemptions for coverage of the coronavirus outbreak, and forging ahead 14% to a 0.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. Already renewed for next year, the popular newcomer was the only talk show moving up despite being in repeats on three of the five days.

The top talk show of the week was Dr. Phil, which slipped 5% to 1.8 with five days of reruns.

Live with Kelly and Ryan went on hiatus, airing repacked shows almost every day, but was still a strong second with a 6% dip to a 1.7.

Ellen DeGeneres remained third with an unchanged 1.2 for the fourth week in a row.

The daytime leader by a mile was Judge Judy with a commanding 5.6, down ticking 2% with a full week of repeats.

Fellow court show Hot Bench eased 5% to a 1.9 and was the second-highest daytime program, behind only Judy.

In access, Entertainment Tonight was the sole first-run gainer, moving up 4% to tie sister show Inside Edition for first place among news mags with a 2.4. Inside Edition was down 8%.

Also worthy of note was Extra, which somehow held its ground at a 0.8 despite losing its primary runs in five of the top six markets due to NASCAR race coverage on June 22.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, -11% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.6, -14%), tied with Maury (0.6, +20%)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, unchanged), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.5, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
