Scripps Ups Brian Joyce To KPAX VP-GM

The sales director of Scripps’ KMGH Denver is chosen to succeed the retiring Bob Hermes at the helm of the group’s CBS affiliate in Missoula, Mont.

Scripps-owned CBS affiliate KPAX Missoula, Mont., has promoted Brian Joyce to vice president and general manager, effective Dec. 14. He succeeds Bob Hermes, who is retiring as VP-GM in January after 40 years in broadcasting. Hermes joined KPAX as a sales manager in 1987 and was promoted to his current role in 1997.

Joyce has more than 20 years of news and sales experience, including four years at Scripps stations. Most recently, he was director of sales at KMGH, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Denver. Prior to that, he was director of sales at KGUN and KWBA, Scripps’ ABC and CW affiliates in Tucson, Ariz.

Before joining Scripps, Joyce was a local sales manager and national sales manager at KOLD Tucson and a local sales manager at KBMT-KJAC in Beaumont, Texas. He also served in leadership roles with London Broadcasting in Dallas, including director of news and programming and vice president and general manager of KTXD.

Joyce launched his broadcast career in Texas as a sports journalist for KETK Tyler before moving into sports director roles at KBTV Beaumont and KYTX Tyler.

Joyce holds a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism from Oklahoma State University.
