TV news talent scout and founder of ShopTalk and TVSpy.com died over the weekend at his home in Alexandria, La.
The Radio-Television News Directors Association issued a statement this afternoon, mourning the death over the weekend of well-known TV news talent scout and newsletter publisher Don Fitzpatrick.
A longtime RTNDA member, Fitzpatrick was the founder of ShopTalk and a companion Web site, TVSpy.com.
RTNDA said the ShopTalk was “must reading for 20-plus years for thousands working in television newsrooms across the country.”
RTNDA awarded Fitzpatrick the John F. Hogan Distinguished Service Award in 2005 in recognition of the key role he played in the industry.
At TVSpy.com, Fitzpatrick’s colleagues posted a message expressing their sadness. But, the message adds, “Given Don’s sense of humor, he would ask us to remember the good times.”
