ActiveVideo to Unveil Web TV Capabilities at CES

ActiveVideo Networks will debut its ActiveVideo platform for CE devices next month at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to enhance consumers’ Web-infused television experiences.

In collaboration with a variety of semiconductor, New Media and CE companies, ActiveVideo will demonstrate the ability of the ActiveVideo platform to bring Web content and interactivity “seamlessly to the television without adding the obstacles of complexity and expense to consumers’ in-home entertainment systems.”

ActiveVideo streams traditional programming and Web-based content to any digital set-top box or Web-connected CE device.

At CES (Renaissance Suite 8), ActiveVideo and complementary companies are expected to engage in four days (Jan. 8-11) of joint demonstrations that will include:

  • The ability of the ActiveVideo Networks software client to be integrated easily and inexpensively into existing integrated circuit designs.
  • The ability of ActiveVideo to drive the development of new, Web-based applications that can increase the functionality and value of CE devices.
  • The ability of ActiveVideo to create a media-friendly environment in which consumers can navigate seamlessly from interactive portals to a full range of intelligently streamed content.

“For Web-infused television to succeed on a macro level, it needs to be as accessible to consumers as the television programming they already enjoy,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo Networks. “ActiveVideo creates a user-friendly Web-infused television environment that increases the value of new CE devices by eliminating the need to purchase a specific Web-to-TV device and integrate it into the home network and in-house entertainment system.”

ActiveVideo says it immerses viewers by combining Web video, Web 2.0 functionality and traditional television. With ActiveVideo, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming, including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation; social networking; personal media; niche content; and targeted, actionable advertising. ActiveVideo uses intelligent MPEG streaming to deliver the Web 2.0 experience to any digital cable set-top box or broadband-connected CE device.
