SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — High winds from the winter storm have toppled a Spartanburg television station’s mountaintop transmission tower.
CBS affiliate WSPA is streaming its morning newscast online because some viewers won’t be able to see it otherwise.
News Director Alex Bongiorno says she heard about the transmitter tower on Hogback Mountain collapsing about 3 Sunday afternoon. No one was injured.
She says the station has been receiving reports about people sitting in traffic for hours on Interstate 85 in the area because of snow. A state highway patrol dispatcher says the highway is shut down for now.
The storm is expected to bring several inches of snow and police are warning people to stay off the roads if they can.
