The Chicago-based station group will install Cell Journalist’s user-generated content platform in 14 markets, allowing viewers to submit photos and videos of breaking news, weather and other events.
Cell Journalist, a provider of user-generated content (UGC) solutions to television stations, newspapers and other media outlets, has been selected by Chicago-based Barrington Broadcasting Group to provide its platform and services to allow Barrington station viewers in 14 television markets to easily send images and videos of breaking news and community events for immediate distribution on air and online.
The Cell Journalist platform enables any individual with a cell phone, digital camera or video recorder to upload images and videos of newsworthy events as they happen.
The platform will also allow Barrington stations to expedite approved content to its audiences without delay, said Parker Polidor, founder and president of Nashville-based Cell Journalist.
“Today’s media consumer is more technologically-savvy and seeks to be engaged in the news gathering process,” said David Buonfiglio, Barrington’s president-interactive. “This new partnership with the category leader in UGC will further involve our viewers in the gathering, sharing and experiencing process and it keeps our stations at the leading edge of technology in our markets.”
