The Global Broadcasting ABC affiliate in Providence, R.I., says it can’t come to an agreement with CBS Television Distribution to renew Dr. Phil, Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition, so effective June 5 it’s replacing them with Christina’s Court, Family Court, a half-hour of local news and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
WLNE, an ABC affiliate owned by Global Broadcasting in Providence, R.I. (DMA 52), today announced that it will no longer carry CBS Television Distribution syndicated programs effective midnight, Friday, June 5.
The syndicated shows are Dr. Phil, Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition. In place of these programs it will air the following schedule:
5 p.m. — Cristina’s Court (Twentieth TV)
5:30 p.m. — Family Court (Program Partners)
7 p.m. — ABC 6 News at 7:00
7:30 p.m. — Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (Disney-ABC)
“We have been working with [CBS Television Distribution] for many months to try to reach an amicable agreement,” said Stephen Doerr, WLNE vice president-general manager. “Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement.”
He continued: “The economics of television have changed and successful stations like WLNE must invest in more local programming to stay competitive.”
