Nexstar’s Springfield, Mo., Fox affiliate takes the top prize ($15,000) in the affiliate board’s “Local TV Is Important to Me” promo contest. The KSFX spot along with those of the three runnersup — WBRC Birmingham, Ala.; WAHU Charlottesville, Va.; and KFJX Joplin, Mo. — will be available via the Internet for airing by other affiliates later this week.
The Fox affiliate board today awarded Nexstar’s KSFX Springfield, Mo. (DMA 74) first place its “Local TV Is Important to Me” promo contest. The award carries a cash prize of $15,000.
The runnersup: Local TV’s WBRC Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 40), second place, $7,500; WAHU Charlottesville, Va. (DMA 183), third place, $5,000; and Saga’s KFJX, Joplin, Mo. (DMA 148), fourth place, $2,500.
In a letter to affiliates announcing the winners, affiliate board chairman John Tupper said the contest drew 35 submissions and that virtually all station groups were represented. “Stations from market rank 20 to 193 produced spots of unbelievable quality, creativity and impact,” he said.
Each of the spots declares “Keep Local TV Free.”
Tupper urged affiliates to run the spots with a tag urging viewers to contact senators and representatives about the pending SHVERA legislation.
Later this week, he said, the winning spots will be available on FTP sites, allowing station to download the spots for editing and airing.
