Lane Michaelsen joins the NBC Miami O&O from Gannett’s WUSA Washington where he ran the news operation.
Lane Michaelsen is joining local NBC O&O WTVJ Miami (DMA 16) as its vice president news and content. Lane fills the role left vacant when Yvette Miley was promoted to MSNBC in New York earlier this year.
Michaelsen joins the station from his position as vice president of the information center at Gannett’s WUSA Washington. While at WUSA, and during his tenure with Gannett Broadcasting, he had oversight of multiple stations’ news operations, co-created and executed the company’s journalists in the United States and England, and implemented change in the focus of all news platforms.
Michaelsen began his career as a photojournalist and has won over 90 awards for excellence from the National Press Photographers Association. In addition, he has received 12 Emmy Awards, seven Edward R. Murrow Awards, Associated Press Awards from multiple states and was named Gannett Corporate Staffer of the Year in 2006.
He has spent time teaching seminars for the Poynter Institute on leadership, photography, reporting, producing and teamwork. Michaelsen is a graduate of Marycrest College in Iowa.
