The group owner’s WLNE Providence, R.I., will use the new Web sites in Providence and New Bedford, Mass., to provide local communities with information, news, events and entertainment.
Global Broadcasting announced the launch today of six hyper-local neighborhood Web sites in the Providence, R.I.-New Bedford, Mass., market (DMA 53) that Global says will increase local content offerings and expand advertising opportunities for local businesses.
The new sites provide a way for Global Broadcasting’s ABC affiliate WLNE to combine the stations’ valuable content with community reporting and commentary focused on each individual neighborhood. This launch is the latest implementation of DataSphere Technologies‘ LocalNet service, which includes an online platform that provides technology, advertising and sales solutions.
These new hyper-local sites include http://providence.abc6.com, http://newport.abc6.com and four others covering Bristol, Cranston, Warwick and Southeast Massachusetts. A complete list of the sites can be found at http://www.abc6.com/communities.
“We’re excited to deliver in-depth coverage for our local communities through these new sites,” said Steve Doerr, vice president-general manager of WLNE. “By leveraging our existing reporting capabilities and reaching out to prominent local news sources we’ll be able to provide the most authoritative and compelling source of news and information for local residents.”
The WLNE newsroom will capture and post community news on a real-time basis to the new sites. Local stories and breaking news that station reporters cover on a daily basis will be complemented with user generated content and also with generally available information relevant to each community.
The launch of the six new neighborhood sites builds on the successful launch of over 130 DataSphere LocalNet sites in other markets including Seattle and Portland, Ore. The sites use DataSphere’s technology in addition to the broadcast TV content and process knowledge provided by its strategic partner Fisher Communications Inc.
DataSphere Technologies’ new LocalNet service provides TV broadcasters and other local media companies with the opportunity to take advantage of existing brands and communication channels to build relevant and valuable online assets. LocalNet is a turnkey solution to address the local small business advertising market, including not only technology but also a sales team. New clients can be up and running within weeks, according to DataSphere.
