WZTV Nashville Names News Managers

Roberta Petterson becomes director of news and Sunny Hampton Powell named assistant news director.

Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Fox affiliate in Nashville (DMA 29) has named Roberta Petterson as its new director of news effective July 26. Petterson, who has 16 years of experience in television news, joins the station from WEWS Cleveland, where she has been assistant news director. Prior to WEWS, she was executive producer and then assistant news director at WTAE Pittsburgh,

Petterson has a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

In addition, the station also named Sunny Hampton Powell as assistant news director.

Powell has been serving as acting news director/executive producer since August 2009. Before coming to WZTV, she was nightside executive producer at WHBQ Memphis. Previously she was a producer at WFLD Chicago, KTVU San Francisco and KESQ Palm Desert, Calif. She is a graduate of the University Of Missouri School Of Broadcast Journalism.

“We are excited to have Roberta, with her track record and achievements, lead the team at Fox 17,” says Dominic Mancuso, general manager WZTV-WUXP-WNAB. “We are also happy to be able to recognize the contributions that Sunny made while serving as acting news director, especially the leadership she exhibited during the floods that directly affected our studios. The dynamic combination of Roberta and Sunny will help us create a more compelling news product for Middle Tennessee viewers.”
