The Gannett CBS affiliate in Little Rock, Ark., now begins its morning local news at 4:30.
Gannett-owned CBS affiliate KTHV Little Rock, Ark. (DMA 56), today debuted its Today’s THV This Morning a half-hour earlier — at 4:30 a.m.
The newscast “is like that first cup of coffee for those who need and want their news straight up first thing in the morning,” according to President-GM Larry Audas.
“We get right to the latest overnight news and drive-time weather,” said News Director Chuck Maulden, who has planned a streamlined newscast with more news coverage and less features. “Folks up that early are on the move and we will cut to the chase.” As part of that approach, Maulden said the newscast would include a single anchor format as opposed to the conventional co-anchor arrangement.
Today’s THV This Morning at 4:30 a.m. will air Monday through Friday in the half hour leading up to Today’s THV This Morning, which airs from 5 to 7 a.m. Maulden said that program retains its same morning flair with anchors Alyson Courtney, Charles Crowson and Tom Brannon. The trio also anchors Today’s THV This Morning at 9:00 Monday through Friday.
Morning news on KTHV begins at 4 a.m. with the CBS Morning News and goes on to feature 5.5 hours of continuous news.
“Viewing patterns have changed and morning news is in demand,” Audas said.
