NBC’s newly departed Will & Grace is the top comedy nominee with 10. ABC leads Big Four broadcast networks with 64 nominations. But HBO has the most chances for Emmys next month with 95.
Fox’s 24 can now boast that it is the top Emmy primetime series nominee, picking up 12 nominations this morning, including Outstanding Drama Series. Will & Grace, which ended its long run on NBC this past season, is the top comedy nominee with a total of 10.
In a reversal of fortune, last year’s Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Comedy winners, ABC’s Lost and Deperate Housewives, respectively, fail to cop a nomination in those categories this year.
Among networks, HBO captured the most nominations with 95, including one each in the Outstanding Drama (The Sopranos) and Outstanding Comedy (Curb Your Enthusiasm) categories. ABC led the Big Four broadcast neworks with 64 followed by CBS (47), NBC (46) and Fox (41).

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominations were announced this morning—at 5:40 a.m. PT—from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre by prior Emmy Award winners Brad Garrett and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and ATAS Chairman Dick Askin. The announcements were telecast by E! Louis-Dreyfus earned a nomination for her role in the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS).
The awards will be presented in 27 categories on Aug. 27 before a black-tie audience at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium and will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and televised by NBC.The ATAS’s Governors Ball will follow the telecast at the Shrine Exhibition Hall, adjacent to the auditorium.
On Saturday, Aug. 19, also at the Shrine Auditorium, 63 awards “categoriesÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â (a single award) and “areasÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â (possibility of one, more than one or no award) will be handed out at a black-tie presentation. The awards presentation will be televised on E! (date to be announced).
A total of 451 separate nominations in 90 categories and areas, compiled by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP, were distributed as follows:
