He will head both of Allbritton’s Washington properties — the ABC affiliate as well as its NewsChannel 8 cable news channel.
Allbritton Communications on Thursday announced the promotion of Bill Lord to VP and general manager of WJLA and NewsChannel 8 in Washington (DMA 8), with responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of both the ABC affiliate and the 24-hour cable news operation. The move elevates Lord from station manager to having control over the editorial, sales, marketing, technical and operational structure at both operations.
Frederick J. Ryan, Jr., Allbritton’s President, said: “We have been quite impressed with how adept Bill has been in coordinating the multiple Washington platforms – broadcast, cable and web. He is an exceptional leader with a savvy understanding of our unique local and national news market.” Ryan added, “We look for Bill to continue the strong rating and financial performance for this unique operation.”
Ryan will remain as president of WJLA/NewsChannel 8 and head of the Allbritton Television Group with overall strategic oversight of all the Allbritton-related properties.
Lord has been WFLA station manager for the past eight years and before that was its vice president of news.
Lord graduated from the University of Washington in his hometown of Seattle and received a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
