Former ABC executive will fill newly created position of senior vice president, entertainment.
Veteran ABC executive and strategic media consultant Jonathan Barzilay has joined CBS Digital Media in the newly created position of senior vice president, entertainment, it was announced today by Larry Kramer, President, CBS Digital Media, to whom he will report.
In his new position, Barzilay will serve as the primary liaison between Digital Media’s entertainment operations and the CBS Paramount Television Entertainment Group. Barzilay will be based in Los Angeles and will work closely with Nancy Tellem, president, CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group, as well as executives from CBS Entertainment, CBS Paramount Network and Domestic Television, King World and Showtime to help shape and facilitate CBS Digital Media’s growing programming and business operations in entertainment.
“We are ramping up our entertainment offerings across multiple platforms, so it was time for us to bring in a senior executive to help coordinate our efforts with the entertainment division,” said Kramer. “Jonathan has lived in both worlds and will be invaluable to our efforts to extend our existing businesses into the digital universe.”
Barzilay was most recently a consultant for clients in the broadcast, cable and wireless industries, including Qualcomm’s mobile television division, MediaFLO USA.
Prior to that, Barzilay spent 15 years working in various positions at ABC, most recently as senior vice president, Disney/ABC Cable Networks Group, and general manager, ABC Kids and Toon Disney, where he was responsible for all operations at ABC Kids and Toon Disney. Before moving into programming, Barzilay held management positions at the ABC Television Network Group and ABC’s legal department.
