In his new role, McCarley’s additional responsibilities include leading NBC Sports advertising and promotions departments in strategic planning and execution.
Mike McCarley, vice president, communications & marketing, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics since October of 2004 has been promoted to vice president, strategic marketing, promotion and communications and given the additional responsibilities of overseeing NBC Sports advertising, promotion and brand strategy.
“Mike has successfully led our communications strategy for nearly two years,” said Dick Ebersol, chairman, NBC Universal, Sports & Olympics. “With this promotion we are combining all of the external messaging of the NBC Sports brand under his strategic vision. He has already begun this process with our NFL partnership and will continue with other properties to deliver one unified message in marketing, promotion and communications on all platforms.”
In his new role, McCarley’s additional responsibilities include leading NBC Sports advertising and promotions departments in strategic planning and execution. McCarley, who has been working in this role since the spring focused on the launch of NBC Sunday Night Football, now serves as the NBC Sports liaison to the NBC Agency, NBC Universal’s in house advertising agency. He will also represent NBC Sports in a newly added position to the NBC Universal Marketing Council, a group of marketers selected from various NBC Universal divisions who lead the company’s marketing efforts.
McCarley will report to Ken Schanzer, president, NBC Sports, on all marketing matters and continue reporting to Cory Shields, executive vice president, corporate communications, NBC Universal on communications matters.
The NBC Sports Communications department will continue to report to McCarley. Brian Walker, director of communications will now handle media relations on NBC Sunday Night Football (Madden, Michaels, Kremer) in addition to his previous duties on Notre Dame, golf, tennis, NHL and digital initiatives. Alana Russo, manager of communications, will serve as the media contact for NBC’s Football Night in America studio show (Costas, Collinsworth, Sharpe, Bettis, King) in addition to NASCAR, horse racing, ratings information, internal communications and publications. Lindsay Fitz will continue as publicist, focused on media relations and coordinating NBC Universal internal initiatives. Lindy Barnes continues as communications coordinator, handling television listings and radio projects.
