Michael Liff, president and general manager of Media General’s WCWJ Jacksonville, Fla. (formerly WJWB) announced today that he plans to leave the company effective March 31, 2007.
Michael Liff, president and general manager of WCWJ Jacksonville, Fla. (formerly WJWB-TV) announced today that he plans to leave the company effective March 31, 2007. Liff has served as the Media General station’s general manager since 1997.
Under Liff’s leadership, WJWB grew to become one of the top-ranked WB affiliates in the country. WJWB became WCWJ, a CW affiliate on May 26, following the formation of the new CW network by CBS and Warner Brothers.
Media General Broadcast Division President Jim Zimmerman said, “Mike has been a solid leader in positioning WCWJ as a top network affiliate and in helping build a strong staff at the station. We wish him well and thank him for his many years of service.”
A search for Liff’s successor will begin immediately, during which time he will continue in his present position. Following the naming of the new general manager, Liff will serve until his planned departure date as a brand consultant for Media General’s CW and My Network TV stations.
Liff joined Media General as general manager at WJWB and has been a broadcaster for 35 years. He began his career in New York in the agency and sales representative businesses, and he also held positions at KTVU San Francisco, WPGH Pittsburgh and KABB San Antonio.
