Cox Media Group moves her from its independent WAXN Charlotte, N.C., to its ABC affiliate in the market. She succeeds Paul Briggs, who became VP-GM of CMG’s WHBQ Memphis late last year.
Cox Media Group (CMG) today named Michelle Harper as its new general sales manager for its ABC affiliate WSOC Charlotte, N.C. (DMA 24) effective immediately. She succeeds Paul Briggs, who became VP-GM of CMG’s WHBQ Memphis late last year.
“Michelle was hired as the General Sales Manager for [Cox’s independent] WAXN-TV, CMG Charlotte on March 21, 2011, and has done an outstanding job leading the TV64 sales team to new heights in both revenue development and revenue share growth,” said Joe Pomilla, WSOC VP-general manager.
“She is a proven leader and has developed strong business relationships with key clients in the Charlotte market. Michelle has also demonstrated her ability to collaborate with our leadership team to foster a positive culture of growth and development within our organization,” Pomilla added.
Harper started her broadcast career at WTVD Raleigh-Durham, N.C., in news, at the in 1985. She started her TV sales career in Charlotte in 1989 as a local account executive at WJZY and then joined WSOC in the same capacity from 1993 to 1995 before moving to the national side of sales at Seltel in Atlanta.
After gaining experience as a local account executive and as a national rep, she moved to Greensboro, N.C., working at WXLV-WUPN, being promoted from regional AE to national sales manager.
From August 2000 to 2004, Harper was general sales manager of WTWB Greensboro and eventually made her way back to WTVD as the national sales manager for seven years.
