The OTT service has signed up 12 TV station groups with CBS affiliates in 56 markets. Counting the 14 O&O that were part of the service when it launched last October, CBS All Access will reach 55% of U.S. TV homes. The groups include Dispatch, Graham Media, Gray , Hearst, Lilly, Meredith, Morgan Murphy, Morris Network, Neuhoff Media, Nexstar, Raycom Media and Withers.
CBS said today that 12 stations groups with CBS affiliates in 56 markets have agreed to participate in CBS All Access, which the network launched in its 14 O&O markets last October.
With the addition of the affiliates, CBS All Access will be available to 55% of U.S. TV homes.
The participating groups include Dispatch, Graham Media, Gray Television, Hearst Television, Lilly Broadcasting, Meredith, Morgan Murphy, Morris Network, Neuhoff Media, Nexstar, Raycom Media and Withers.
Each of the groups’ CBS affiliates will make their live local signals available as part of the OTT service within their markets.
CBS is marketing the service for $5.99 a month. In addition to the local CBS signals, the service includes on-demand CBS shows, past and present.
CBS did not release terms of the “early deals” with the affiliates. But affiliate sources say that they will receive a minimum of 59 cents per sub per month and that the revenue share grows with the number of subscribers. One source said the share tops out at 79 cents; another, at $1.
The affiliates will also benefit by having live viewership in their markets applied to their Nielsen rating, CBS said.
“This is another key step in the company’s long-standing strategy to grow our business in a way that complements our existing ecosystem,” said CBS CEO Leslie Moonves in a prepared statement.
“Adding CBS affiliates to the mix will give viewers the opportunity to watch more CBS programming whenever they want on whichever device they choose. We look forward to adding more affiliate partners to build CBS All Access nationwide.”
Hoping to secure more affiliate-partners, CBS has scheduled a meeting with its affiliates next Tuesday morning during the NAB convention in Las Vegas.
