Hearst moves her from KOAT Albuquerque, N.M., to lead the news department at its NBC affiliate in Birmingham, Ala.
Sue Stephens, a veteran Hearst Television news director with more than 20 years’ experience has been named news director of at the company’s NBC affiliate WVTM Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 43) effective July 20.
She succeeds Tim Gardner, who left the station last Thursday.
For the past 12 years Stephens has been news director of KOAT, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Albuquerque, N.M.
Stephens is the recipient of a Columbia DuPont award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and numerous Emmy awards. During her tenure at KOAT, the New Mexico Broadcasters Association named it Station of the Year four times.
She is a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in communications/journalism.
