WEEKLY SYNDICATED RATINGS REPORT

Many Syndies Stall As Holidays Approach

Only two of the 14 talk shows were able to move up from the previous frame in the week ending Dec. 13. The same held true for most of the other first-run genres as well.

Syndicated strips declined in the week ending Dec. 13, as PUT levels plunged with many viewers out shopping for the holidays in unusually mild weather. In addition, some shows were preempted by news reports in the aftermath of the San Bernardino terror attack.

For example, only two of the 14 talk shows were able to move up from the week before: Steve Harvey — which grew 6% from the previous week to a 1.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its second-biggest number of the season — and Jerry Springer, which jumped 8% to a 1.3, matching its season high. Harvey also surged 25% among women 25-54 to a 1.0, while Springer shot up 14% to a 0.8 in the key demo.

Topping the talkers were Dr. Phil and Live with Kelly & Michael, which tied for first place at a 2.9 with Phil dipping 6% and Live holding steady.

In game show news, Celebrity Name Game gained 8% to a 1.3 and pulled ahead of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for the first time ever. Millionaire was flat at a 1.2.

Wheel of Fortune led the category with an unchanged 7.0. Family Feud advanced 8% to a 6.4 and took over second place, with Jeopardy dropping 2% to a third-place 6.3.

The rookie race tightened a bit, although Crime Watch Daily was still No. 1 despite giving back 11% to a 0.8. FABLife eased 13% to a second-place 0.7, while Crazy Talk stood pat at a 0.6.
