Weekly syndicated hour that remodels and awards houses to first-time homeowners gets Frito-Lay sponsorship for next season.
Home Team, a syndicated weekly hour with host Troy McClain, is a go for season three, it was announced at NATPE by executive in charge of production Stephanie J. Durham. The announcement of season three coincides with a major sponsorship with food marketer Frito-Lay.
Home Team lends a hand to aspiring first-time homeowners to realize their dream. Typically, the program selects a family from nominees through its Web site, www.hometeam.com, in a given geographic area, then buys an undervalued property, and enlists the friends and family of the lucky recipients in remodeling the house before the surprise unveiling to the lucky family.
They receive down payment and closing costs up to 15% of the cost of acquiring the home, up to $20,000 of improvements and furnishings, and up to $18,000 toward the first year’s mortgage payments. In addition, they are offered coaching in budgeting and credit. Thanks to the Frito-Lay sponsorship, the lucky family will also receive a $2,000 cash gift from the food marketer—the check hidden in a gift basket of Frito-Lay products in a segment called “The Frito-Lay Moment of Joy.”
Season three will also feature a number of refinements to the program, Durham said. “We’ll develop members of the ‘Pro Team’ [the professionals who lead the remodeling effort] as TV personalities. Our research shows that they are very popular with viewers,” Durham said.
Home Team season three also benefits from the input of senior media consultant Steve Cohen. The veteran broadcaster has been a consultant in media startups from Aruba to China; was general manager of Chris Craft’s KTVX Salt Lake City; news director of KCOP Los Angeles; a founder of Court TV; and longtime executive with the CBS O&Os, including stints as general manager of WCAU Philadelphia and news director of WCBS New York and KNXT (now KCBS) Los Angeles.
Home Team is produced by Lenzworks of Salt Lake City.
