Automation, digital-friendly content and a local meteorologist can dramatically increase video views in apps, OTT, web

TV stations can rapidly increase digital video views — and advertising impressions — by adding automated tools that enable meteorologists to easily produce mobile friendly forecasts and schedule them to appear throughout the day, according to a Fireside Chat that took place during TV2025: Monetizing the Future. One TV station expanded mobile video views from 3,000-4,000 per month to 80,000-90,000 per month just 30 days after implementing Max Engage. Newer tools like Weather Insight use AI to target weather to users’ exact location.

AT&T Officially Announces In-Car Streaming

AT&T has officially launched its in-car video streaming service WarnerMedia Ride, offering it free to owners of 27 vehicle brands who have AT&T unlimited data connected car service. Ride will include news, sports and entertainment programming from brands including Bleacher Report, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, TNT and more. AT&T also plans to offer HBO Max on qualifying data plans next year.

CBS’s Subramanyam: Live Still Thrives In Pandemic

Netflix 3Q Sees Slump In Sub Growth

The drop-off disclosed Tuesday in Netflix’s latest earnings report was more dramatic than management had warned it might be. After picking up 2.2 million customers in the July-September period, Netflix finished the quarter with 195.2 million worldwide subscribers. Earlier, company had forecast an addition of 2.5 million subscribers during the quarter.

Pai: FCC Will Clarify Sec. 230

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has signaled he plans to follow President Trump’s lead and “clarify” Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. He also says he has been assured by FCC lawyers that the FCC has the authority to do so. ““As elected officials consider whether to change the law, the question remains: What does Section 230 currently mean?,” Pai said in a statement. “[M]any advance an overly broad interpretation that in some cases shields social media companies from consumer protection laws in a way that has no basis in the text of Section 230. The commission’s General Counsel has informed me that the FCC has the legal authority to interpret Section 230.  Consistent with this advice, I intend to move forward with a rulemaking to clarify its meaning.”
