Amazon Fire TV’s Local News App Now Covers 158 U.S. Cities

Amazon’s news app on Fire TV on Wednesday began expanding live and on-demand local news from 88 to 158 major cities across the U.S. The expansion includes cities like Charleston, S.C.; Wichita, Kan.; Tucson, Ariz.; Reno, Nev.; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Honolulu; and Lincoln, Neb., and will more than double the local stations available from 126 to 259. The expansion follows an initial 12-city launch last year and an expansion to 88 cities in March.

Peacock Lands On Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablets

NBCUniversal and Amazon just announced that Peacock will launch on Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets in the U.S. starting on Thursday. The Peacock app will bring thousands of hours of on-demand movies and shows, as well as live news and sports programming, to Fire TV and Fire tablet customers nationwide. Amazon said it is adding on-demand local news in 88 more cities to tie news app on Fire TV. The stories come from stations owned by Disney’s ABC Television Stations, CBSN, Tegna, Cox, Scripps and Altice USA. Amazon introduced local news last year in 12 cities, including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

TikTok Heads To TV

TikTok has launched its first TV app on Amazon Fire TV devices. “More on TikTok” features curated video playlists and compilations from the mobile TikTok app, as well as interviews with creators, along with other content that runs over the one-minute limit on the phone app. The app is a view-only channel, so users won’t need to log in, and it won’t enable them to upload videos.
