WVUE Among 64th Scripps Howard Winners

The Scripps Howard Awards celebrate excellence in journalism during 2016 in 17 categories, with prize money totaling $180,000. The winning journalists and news outlets demonstrated courage, resourcefulness and ingenuity.

Public Broadcasting Honors Blunt, Leahy

America’s Public Television Stations recognized several public broadcasting leaders with awards Wednesday and honored two members of Congress for their advocacy on behalf of the system. Senators Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) each received the Champion of Public Broadcasting award, which recognizes political leaders and others who protect the ability of local public TV stations to provide education, public safety and civic leadership services.

Paul Karpowicz Honored With Golden Mike

On Monday evening in New York, $280,000 was raised to help broadcasters in need in honor of Paul Karpowicz, Meredith Broadcasting Group president and recipient of the Broadcasters Foundation of America 2017 Golden Mike Award. The foundation also presented its 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award to Bill Hoffman, retired president of Cox Media Group. The national journalism competition was established in 1953 and recognizes outstanding journalism across multiple platforms. This year, there are 15 journalism categories with total cash prizes of $180,000. All entries are due by Feb. 10. The Scripps Howard Foundation will honor and celebrate award recipients in Cincinnati on April 12. The Scripps Howard Foundation will announce the winners in a Twitter campaign on March 7.
