The Golden Globes’ night of underdogs included wins for Amazon’s comedy about a transgender woman, a rookie Latina actress (Gina Rodriguez) who just learned Sunday that her show had been picked up for a second season, a new Showtime series about a marriage undermined by a torrid affair and the television remake of the movie Fargo. In all, three Globes went to streaming services, three to basic cable networks, three to premium cable networks, one to public broadcasting and one to the tiny CW broadcast network. ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox were shut out.

Once again, Screen Actors Guild voters have proved their loyalty to actors they’ve nominated time and again. At least SAG voters acknowledged Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, after ignoring it last time around. SAG also heaped love on Netflix’s other big show, House of Cards, giving it first-time noms in the drama field and in the best actress category for Robin Wright, as well as a nom for star Kevin Spacey for the second year running.

The Broadcasters Foundation of American has NAB President Gordon Smith and the trade group he heads to be honored at its black-tie fundraising gala in New York on March 16. “Gordon’s accomplishments for broadcasters are widely recognized,” says BFA Chairman Phil Lombardo. “But perhaps many are not aware of Gordon’s tireless efforts” on behalf of the BFA.

Tartikoff Awards For Blue, Leno, Sarandos
Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Jay Leno, Entertainment Tonight alum Linda Bell Blue and producer Jonathan Murray are among the industry notables set to receive the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards on Jan. 21 at the NATPE confab in Miami Beach.
PBS and CBS were the big winners Tuesday evening as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences unveiled its 35th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards. The pubcaster walked away with a leading 11 trophies, followed by the Eye with 10.
