When CNN acquired Casey Neistat’s social app Beme last fall, the news organization said that by this summer, the pair would have a stand-alone media company focused on “timely and topical video and empowering content creators to use technology to find their voice.”
CNN has acquired the tech and talent behind Beme, a social sharing app that looked to a “more authentic” form of news sharing among millennials, the company said Monday. The app, which was bought for an undisclosed sum, will shut down with the acquisition and its 12 employees will join CNN. Beme’s ideas will get free rein as a standalone venture modeled after CNN’s Great Big Story.
