The comedian and star of CBS’s The Neighborhood, who will host this year’s Emmys, talks about his inclusive approach to TV’s big night and why “I don’t want that Oscars feel.”
CBS looked inside its own neighborhood to find this year’s Emmy host: Cedric the Entertainer will take the stage when the 73rd Primetime Emmys airs on Sept. 19. Cedric the Entertainer stars in the Eye network comedy The Neighborhood, which airs Mondays (and likely returns the night after the Emmys, kicking off the entire fall 2021 TV season for CBS).
Cedric The Entertainer is leaving Disney-ABC’s syndicated game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after a season as a host. There is no replacement yet though Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva says that Terry Crews is in line for the job. Cedric cited his busy schedule and the show’s move to Connecticut for the decision.
The new host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Disney-ABC’s new host game show, Cedric “The Entertainer,” has been hitting the promotion circuit in advance of the show’s Sept. 2 debut. His goal is to broaden Millionaire’s reach. “We’ll go out and get a nice slice of America, younger contestants, but all walks of life from all parts of the country,” he says.
This fall the comedian will replace Meredith Vieira, who launched the weekday version of the game show in 2002 and remained host for 11 seasons.
The hot rumor at NATPE is that Disney-ABC is close to announcing that comedian, actor and director Cedric the Entertainer (Cedric Kyles) has been tapped to replace Meredith Vieira as host of its syndicated Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Disney-ABC would say only that it will comment when it has her successor in place.
