ABC Cha-Chas To A Win With ‘Dancing’
Part one of the two-part season finale of ABC’s reality show Dancing with the Stars drew strong ratings last night, though not quite as strong as the comparable show last fall. Stars averaged a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating at 8 p.m., easily the highest-rated show of the night. It was down 6% from a 4.9 last fall, not bad considering that show had controversy magnet Bristol Palin.
‘Dancing’ Gives ABC Another Easy Win
Dancing with the Stars‘ ratings heated up for last night’s semifinal performance as a number of broadcast shows saw their numbers climb on an evening full of season finales. Dancing was the night’s top-rated show with a 4.4 adults 18-49 rating from 8 to 10 p.m., up from a 4.2 last week and leading ABC to an easy victory on the night, 52% ahead of No. 2 Fox.
‘Dancing’ Dips Against NCAA Title Game
Airing opposite the NCAA men’s basketball title game on CBS, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars slid 12% in its third week to a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating. That’s still a strong rating, putting it second behind the game for the night. And Stars actually pulled its biggest audience ever against the annual CBS broadcast, 21.4 million viewers, though that was down more than a million from last week.
Big Crowd Tunes In For ‘Dancing’ Debut

ll the hype over Bristol Palin’s controversial appearance in the Dancing with the Stars finals paid off for the long-running reality show. The season 11 finale last night averaged 24.1 million total viewers at 9 p.m. on ABC, and a 5.3 adults 18-49 rating, the latter up 23% over last fall’s finale. It marked its best finale in total viewers in six seasons and its best among 18-49s in five.
Dancing With the Stars producers said Tuesday the contestants received a “record amount of activity,” which overloaded its online and phone voting system after Monday’s final competition show. The network has been denying voting issues all season in light of Bristol Palin’s longevity on the show.
ABC’s Dancing with the Stars has weathered its share of controversies over the previous 10 seasons. But this year may have produced the biggest controversy of all — Bristol Palin’s triumph over Brandy — heading into tonight’s final performance episode, beginning tonight at 8 p.m., and leading into tomorrow’s finale, set for 9.
