Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia on Sunday unveiled plans for the United Football League, the new spring pro football league born from the merger of the XFL and USFL. During an appearance Sunday morning on Fox’s NFL on Fox, the pair said the UFL‘s debut season will begin March 30, 2024, with a game between the Arlington Renegades and Birmingham Stallions, the previous champions from each league. More details are expected soon regarding teams and markets. A promo logo suggests games will be played on ABC, ESPN, Fox and FS1.
Dwayne Johnson, who teamed with Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners to acquire the XFL over the summer, says the football league will take 2021 off but plans to return in 2022. “It’s an uphill battle,” Johnson wrote in a tweet, “but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us.”
Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital have acquired the XFL. Founded by WWE CEO Vince McMahon, the football league was scheduled to go bankruptcy auction today, but Johnson, Garcia and RedBird acquired its parent company, Alpha Entertainment, for approximately $15 million.
Dwayne Johnson will make his first appearance on the show in several years when it debuts Friday on the broadcast network.
