Kimmel, host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, is a natural choice for ABC, which is airing the Primetime Emmy Awards in September under the wheel system wherein the telecast rotates each year among the Big Four networks. The gig would mark the second time Kimmel has hosted the Emmys; his first round was back in 2012, when ABC last carried them.
Hot off his Emmy win for best drama, Vince Gilligan, the creator and producer of “Breaking Bad,” has struck a deal with CBS that will bring him to the more lucrative side of the business, broadcast television.
The awards show earned its biggest TV audience for an Emmys show in nearly a decade, according to Nielsen data supplied by CBS. The network estimates 40 million people at least watched a portion of Sunday’s broadcast. About 13 million viewers watched last year’s show on ABC.
Klugman Deserves Emmy Tribute, Says Son
Adam Klugman, the son of the late Jack Klugman, who was a three-time Emmy winner and star of The Odd Couple, says it’s “criminal” that his dad wasn’t part of a special Emmy tribute, honoring those who died in the past year. “My dad was at the inception of television and helped build it in the early days,” Klugman said.
Sunday Night Football Beats CBS, Emmys
The Emmys were popular last night and ultimtaely won in total viewers, but NBC’s Sunday Night Football remained the top Sunday show when it comes to the key 18-49 demographic. The game between the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers averaged a 5.5 overnight rating for that age group and a 15 share. CBS, with its 3.5 hour Emmys broadcast, was narrowly behind at 4.8/13. Fox came in third with repeats of The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers. ABC was fifth for a repeat of Once Upon a Time.

CBS will present the 65th annual awards ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, from L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre. Nominations for the Emmys will be announced on Thursday, July 18.
