President Trump thinks latenight comedy is no laughing matter. He slapped back at TV hosts and their snarky monologues on Twitter Saturday morning — and hinted at regulatory retaliation. “Late Night host are dealing with the Democrats for their very ‘unfunny’ & repetitive material, always anti-Trump!” he complained at 8 a.m.. “Should we get Equal Time?”
Last week, the FCC Media Bureau issued a Declaratory Ruling, deciding that a syndicated television program, Matter of Fact with Fernando Espuelas, was a bona fide news interview program — meaning that appearances on the program by legally qualified candidates for public office would not give rise to equal opportunities (or “equal time” as it is often called).
News organizations wonder how to avoid a lopsided view of the election race as Donald Trump seems to relish airtime, while Hillary Clinton does not.
