Broadcasters increasingly are getting comfortable with the idea of replacing their existing baseband master control and playout infrastructure with a cloud alternative when the next technical refresh happens. However, for those looking to the public cloud questions remain about live TV. The ability to run master control for multiple stations is the latest operation to begin the move to an IT-based solution. Companies including Florical Systems, Harris Broadcast and Snell are developing products that put everything needed to run stations in the cloud, rather than in a local master control room.

Among the myriad of broadcasting gear on display at next week’s NAB Show in Las Vegas are automation, traffic and billing equipment and software. There’s growing interest in these products since TV broadcasters need to be able to oversee a growing number of channels with a shrinking number of staff.
