Five months after announcing her exit from Hallmark Channel, Candace Cameron Bure is confirmed for her first holiday movie for GAC Family. Great American Family announced on Tuesday morning that Bure is set to star in and executive-produce A Christmas… Present, which will bow in November as part of the cabler’s “Great American Christmas” programming event (which returns Oct. 21).
The holidays are (almost) here — and so is the ever more competitive war for Christmas movie viewers. And then there’s the curious case of GAC Family, a new cable network that has the backing of an investor group with ties to former president Donald Trump, and that appears to be positioning itself as a destination for viewers who think Hallmark holiday movies are too edgy.
Bill Abbott, who ran the squeaky-clean Hallmark Channel, is looking to turn cable networks recently acquired by his GAC Media into a new family friendly entertainment destination. The Great American Country channel, acquired from Discovery for $90 million, is becoming GAC Family, effective Sept. 27 and Ride TV will become GAC Living.
