With Univision Communications’ dispute with Dish Network ending its second week with seemingly no end in sight, the broadcaster has taken to the airwaves and social media to inform its viewers of other ways they can watch its programming, including via cable, telco and its own over-the-top service Univision Now.
Univision is making a U-turn in its digital media strategy. The Spanish language media company said Tuesday that it is looking to sell most of the online properties that it has acquired in the past few years. This includes the family of websites formerly known as Gawker Media — including brands like Gizmodo and Jezebel — and the satirical publication The Onion.

Univision Extends Randy Falco’s Contract
Randy Falco, who has been president-CEO of Univision since 2011, is tacking on at least another two years to his deal, taking him through Jan. 31, 2020. Falco’s extension comes as UCI, which is privately held, announced 3Q earnings of $778.2 million, up 5.9% vs. 3Q 2016. Net income was $104 million in the quarter, compared to net loss of $30.5 million in 3Q 2016.

The tide is turning among America’s Spanish-language broadcast networks, and no one is happier about it than NBCUniversal boss Steve Burke. Soon, he says, parent company Comcast’s investors will catch up to his level of joy. That turnaround hasn’t technically paid off just yet in terms of revenues — but it could be just a matter of time.
