At the end of its three-night run, History Channel’s Hatfields & McCoys miniseries now holds the top three slots among entertainment telecasts in ad-supported cable history. Wednesday night’s conclusion brought in 14.3 million viewers, topping the previous broadcasts and becoming the most-watched non-sporting event in basic cable history.
History’s record-breaking Hatfields & McCoys took so long to get made that Burt Lancaster — who died in 1994 — was once set to star in the role Kevin Costner plays. But executive producer Leslie Greif never gave up during his decades-long slog to get his labor of love on the air.
History’s Hatfields & McCoys retained most of its jaw-dropping number of viewers for its second installment Tuesday night at 9 p.m., amassing 13.1 million total viewers, with 4.7 million of them in the advertiser-desired 18-49 demographic.
The premiere of History’s three-part miniseries scored record ratings on Monday night, becoming the most-watched non-sports program in ad-supported cable history with 13.9 million viewers.
