ABC is making some changes to its lineup following the resolution of the writers strike. Comedy Home Economics has been canceled and High Potential has been moved to fall 2024. ABC still has to make decisions on a renewal for The Rookie: Feds and the status of The Good Lawyer, a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Bucking this week’s cancellation trend, ABC on Friday renewed all five of its remaining scripted bubble shows. For those keeping track at home, that includes dramas Big Sky (for Season 3) and A Million Little Things (for Season 5), as well as comedies The Conners (for Season 5), Home Economics (for Season 3) and The Wonder Years (for Season 2).
The two Wednesday comedies will extend their runs by nine episodes apiece.
A quintet of scripted ABC series can breathe long-awaited sighs of relief. The Alphabet Net on Friday handed renewals to The Rookie, A Million Little Things and comedy trio The Conners, The Goldbergs and Home Economics.
ABC has ordered the single-camera comedy Home Economics to series. The series will air on the broadcast network in spring 2021. The show was originally developed as part of the 2020 pilot season.
The network is picking up the cast options for the five projects that it has committed to producing this year through to Sept. 30. They are dramas Rebel, starring Katey Sagal and Andy Garcia and Delroy Lindo’s Harlem’s Kitchen, as well as comedies Bossy, which was formerly known as Kids Matter Now, Topher Grace’s Home Economics and Work Wife. Rolled over into next year’s development season are Adopted, National Parks Service, which was formerly known as ISB and Triage.
