Sen. Chuck Schumer, a prominent Democrat from New York, says that he believes that joint sales agreements, especially in smaller television markets, are beneficial to the public interest. He says that he has sent a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler urging him to grant waivers to allow such agreements to continue. Coming from a Senator of the same political party as the chairman, that call may have more impact than those that have previously gone to the FCC.
The trade group tells the commission that its new approach to service agreements is “arbitrary and capricious” and it should stop by May 8.
